St. Nick

It has been my family's tradition for as long as I can remember to fill stockings to be opened on the morning of December 6th. We remember the European tradition of St. Nicholas, who filled children's shoes with gifts. This morning Lucy founds gifts in her stocking and in a special box that was sent from Gram.

This year Lucy found books, a toy, a cup and a coloring book from her favorite movie, Madagascar.

Her favorite gift came in this special box from Gram.
It was a very cute, very large gingerbread cookie.
Then, she immediately developed two 'owies' on her knees when she saw that there were some special band-aids in the box as well.Of course, the cute monkey band-aids fixed the owies.

Growing up, St. Nick was our first reminder that Christmas was coming soon. This was when we got our Advent calendars and would start the count down to Christmas Day. Lucy received a nativity set this morning. We will continue to talk about the Christmas story so she will understand that on Christmas Day we celebrate receiving the greatest gift, Jesus.

Great post - love the tradition passed down from your family too. That stuff is cool, and someday Lucy may be doing that with her own kids too. I love her sweet little feet where she's looking at her coloring book. And the monkey band-aids on her owies pic is hilarious. Mary does the same thing! She loves band-aids! Can't wait to see you guys soon...
